As it’s coming up to my Grandad’s Birthday I needed to find a present that really suited him, and as ever it’s hard to find anything in budget and which he would really like. My girlfriend recommended that we go to Glazy Daisy in Southborough, Kent as she had recently been there with her work and said it was great. It’s basically a place where you can go and paint on pottery and then they glaze it for you. I rang up and sorted out a booking (bookings are 2 hour slots) and couldn’t wait to try a new area of art.
We got there on Saturday and straight away it was an obvious choice for kids birthday parties (so beware screaming kids) but we were welcomed and we sat down with everything we needed in front of us. We chose a piece of pottery to paint on (a huge range of things from plates to photo frames) and started. I took a picture of a Kingfisher as my grandad loves birds and it’s also a great bird to paint, lots of vibrant colours.
At first I was slightly worried that it wouldn’t go well as the colours you paint with aren’t how they will turn out after glazed (start off very chalky but gain their colours after glazing), but we were given a little colour chart to help which was a great help indeed.
After an hour and a half I was finally happy with the painting and I have to say it was great fun trying out his new method. Here’s the final painting on a plate (before being glazed, also slightly darker than real life as camera seemed to darken it):

Overall I would absolutely recommend Glazy Daisy to anybody, whether you’re just looking for a nice personal present for someone or a professional artist wanting to try something new, this is a great place to paint and to top it all off, great prices!
